This past Fridday, May 29th marked the 44th anniversary of the tornado that struck the city of Marion, IL. Several family members of those lost in the storm joined community members and city leaders Friday afternoon at Tower Square Plaza to remember the victims.
The tornado struck at 3:15 p.m. that day and damaged or destroyed dozens of businesses, shopping centers and schools as it cut through the city, leaving a lasting impact on Marion and Williamson County. The names of ten victims were read aloud Friday during the rememberance ceremony.
