The Jackie Branch Boat Ramp at Rend Lake will temporarily close in early June to allow for the installation of new accessibility features designed to improve recreational access for visitors.
The boat ramp, entrance roadway, parking lot and restrooms will be closed tomorrow and Wednesday while construction crews complete work on the project.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is partnering with the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance to carry out the improvements.
Planned additions include a 10-by-20-foot floating fishing dock featuring non-skid PVC decking, side railings, intermediate handrails and edge roll-off guards to enhance safety and accessibility.
The project will also add a 12-by-16-foot double kayak slip dock equipped with an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant transfer platform and overhead grab rail. In addition, a 40-foot ADA-compliant walkway extending into Jackie Branch Cove will provide improved access to the new facilities.
Officials say the upgrades are intended to expand outdoor recreation opportunities and make fishing and kayaking more accessible for visitors of all abilities at Rend Lake.
