Surrounded by his loving family, Larry Thomas “Tom” Hart, 74, of Dahlgren, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2026.

Tom was born on August 26, 1951 in Dahlgren, Illinois, to Arza and Helen Hart. He was a graduate of Dahlgren High School, Class of 1969. Tom began his career at Continental Tire before going on to work for the Illinois Department of Transportation, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring and spending more time with his family.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia Lynn “Cindy” Hart; his three sons, Christopher (Tressa) Hart, Chuck (Erin) Hart, and Nathan (Tiffany) Hart; and his nine grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored: Hannah (Gregor) Garrett, Hayden, Mason, Emery, Ella, Kash, Karlie, Brayden, and Sawyer. He was especially excited and proud to be awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild, expected in August.

He is also survived by his siblings: Eva (Rodney) Wallace, Gary (Jeannette) Hart, Vicki (John) Bowling, Sherry (Steve) Bowling, and Jerry (Heidi) Hart.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Arza and Helen Hart, brother-in-law Rodney Wallace and in-laws Glen and Ada Griesemer.

Family and friends will remember Tom as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose greatest joy in life was his family. He loved helping with local elections and was always eager to debate in a political conversation. Whether from his back porch or his golf cart, Tom loved watching the cows in the pasture. Nothing brought Tom more happiness than his grandchildren. When his health allowed, he could often be found cheering them on at sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments. He was known as a hardworking man who never passed up the opportunity to find a good deal. Through his words and actions, he taught his family the importance of loving one another and staying close. His family was truly his greatest blessing.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, June 3,2026 at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, IL. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 4 at 11:00 am at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro. Burial will follow at Richardson Hill Cemetery in Dahlgren, Illinois.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to all the caregivers, medical professionals, friends, and loved ones who provided support and care throughout Tom’s journey.

Tom will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
