The Illinois Department of Transportation is advising motorists of overnight traffic disruptions on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County beginning tonight (Monday, June 1st).

According to IDOT, Interstate 57 traffic will be diverted nightly from tonight through Wednesday, June 3rd to allow crews to place structural steel for the Illinois Route 15 overpass project.

The closures are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night, weather permitting.

During the work, traffic will be routed around the construction zone using entrance and exit ramps at the Mount Vernon interchange.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to consider alternate routes when traveling through the area during the overnight closure periods.

IDOT officials are asking drivers to slow down, remain alert, and use caution when traveling near the work zone.
