The Chicago White Sox shut out the Minnesota Twins 8-0 to avoid a three-game sweep at Target Field. Andrew Benintendi and Sam Antonacci combined to go 6-for-7 with one homer, four runs scored, and three RBIs to lead Chicago at the plate. Jacob Gonzalez also drove-in a pair of runs while starting pitcher Erick Fedde earned his first win after tossing five scoreless innings. The White Sox are second in the AL Central at 33-and-29. They visit the Phillies tomorrow night.

The St. Louis Cardinals salvaged their series against the Texas Rangers with a 5-3 win from Busch Stadium. Alec Burleson drove in three runs during the victory, while Jordan Walker finished with three base hits. Andre Pallante earned his sixth win after allowing one run on three hits in five-and-two-thirds innings. St. Louis is in third place in the NL Central at 32-and-28. The Cardinals host Cincinnati tomorrow night. The St. Louis Cardinals are parting ways with one of their relievers. The team sent Matt Pushard back to the Miami Marlins yesterday. Pushard was a Rule Five pick by St. Louis last December. He needed to stay on the Cardinals active roster all season in order to avoid being returned to Miami. The 28-year-old had a 5.14 ERA in six appearances with St. Louis this year.

The Chicago Cubs are on a three-game losing streak after a 5-4, ten-inning loss to the Athletics at Wrigley Field. The Northsiders led by two entering the top of the eighth before the A’s tied the game. Ethan Roberts surrendered the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth and was charged with his first loss in relief. Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong both homered in the losing effort. The Cubs are in fourth place in the NL Central at 32-and-30. They send Shota Imanaga to the mound against the A’s tonight.

(San Antonio, TX) — The Knicks stunned the Spurs to tip off the NBA Finals. The team erased a 14-point deficit to secure 105-95 comeback win in Game One from San Antonio. Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 30 points on 12-of-31 shooting. He sunk 13 in the fourth quarter as the Knicks closed out the game with an 11-0 run. Victor Wembanyama struggled to 26 points on 6-of-21 shooting for San Antonio, which will try snap New York’s 12-game postseason winning streak when Game Two tips off from the Lone Star State on Friday.

The Golden Knights came away with a victory in the first game after trailing by two goals in the opening period. Vegas has won each of its last seven games. Carolina is looking to bounce back after giving up its early lead. The Canes have dropped just two games so far this postseason.

(Undated) — One-time Super Bowl champion and 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson is officially hanging up his cleats and shoulder pads. Wilson confirmed that he is retiring from the NFL to take a job with CBS Sports in a social media post on Wednesday. The announcement comes two days after it was reported that the 37-year-old was finalizing a deal to become an analyst on CBS’ Sunday NFL pregame show. Wilson played 14 seasons split between the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. He passed for 46,966 yards and 353 touchdowns while also rushing for 5,568 yards and 31 TDs across 205 career games.

(Chicago, IL) — Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will grace the cover of this year’s Madden NFL video game. The cover shows Williams preforming a jump throw with the Chicago skyline in the background. He’s the first Bears player to make the cover of the game. It comes after Williams led the Bears to a NFC North division title and an appearance in the NFC Divisional Round last season. Williams said making the cover was like his childhood dream was coming true.

Kittle said that the Achilles is doing great and noted that he has had no setbacks and is ahead of schedule for a return to game action. (Tampa, FL) — The Lightning’s bench boss is being recognized for his stellar season. Jon Cooper won the Jack Adams award on Wednesday. The trophy is given to the NHL’s best coach of the year. This is the first time the 58-year-old has earned the Adams award after leading Tampa Bay to a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference despite major injuries and absences from star players. Cooper has coached 14 seasons in the league.

(Washington, DC) — One of the most decorated coaches in college football history spoke before Congress on Wednesday. Nick Saban faced several Unites States senators in a hearing and pleaded for the politicians to bring order to college sports via a proposed bill. Saban was testifying his support for the Protect College Sports Act that would provide the NCAA with an antitrust exemption to enforce several rules that have been challenged in court in recent years. The rules would include limiting athletes to transferring only once without penalty, limiting athlete eligibility to a maximum of five years, prohibiting former professional athletes from playing in college, and prohibiting schools from poaching a coach from another school during their sport’s season.
