HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLASTIC BOWL:

The Fairfield Community High School Varsity Scholastic Team performed at the Long Island Quiz Bowl Alliance National Tournament in Denver recently. FCHS went 4 and 3 in the preliminary rounds which was a tie for fifth place. By virtue of their excellent performance in the preliminaries, FCHS qualified for the playoffs which featured premier teams.

FCHS defeated Carbon, Utah; Conifer, Colorado; Ruidoso, New Mexico; and Kremlin-Hillsdale, Oklahoma. They fell to Jenks, Oklahoma; Elkhorn, Nebraska; Lake George, New York; and South Glen Fall, New York.

Participating for FCHS were Allison Breuer, Grady Simpson, Jedd Wellen, Jack Copeland, Ryan Vaughan, Emma Barbre, Addie Lafikes, and Mya Crippen. The team is coached by Tammy Austin. Principal Tiffany Lyons also accompanied the group as a chaperone.

NASCAR Hall of Famer and former broadcaster, Ned Jarrett, passed away Thursday of natural causes at the age of 93.

 

NFL News:

Indiana Governor Mike Braun is celebrating the Chicago Bears’ decision to build a new stadium facility in Hammond, Indiana, calling it a major economic opportunity for Northwest Indiana and the statea as a whole.

In a statement released Friday,  Braun welcomed the NFL franchise to Indiana following the announcement that the Bears will establish a world-class stadium facility in Hammond.  The governor highlighted the potential economic impact of the project, saying the arrival of an NFL franchise in Northwest Indiana is expected to create jobs, spur investment, and generate long-term growth thoughout the region.
