Stay Safe While Grilling

By Tony Collins Jun 10, 2026 | 5:40 AM

It’s “summer grilling season,” and authorities are reminding you to stay safe. According to the National Fire Protection Association, fire departments responded to an annual average of 8,900 home fires involving grills, hibachis, or barbecues, including 3,900 structure fires and nearly 5,000 outside or unclassified fires. Children under five accounted for about thirty-nine percent of the “contact-type burns” per year. These burns typically occurred when someone, often a child, bumped into, touched, or fell on the grill, grill part, or hot coals.
