The Illinois Eastern Community Colleges Board of Trustees has accepted the retirement of Chris Simpson, Vice Chancellor for Business Operations and President of Olney Central College, effective May 17, 2027.
Simpson, a Fairfield native joined IECC in 2023 and has overseen business operations district-wide while leading Olney Central College. Chancellor Ryan Gower praised Simpson’s leadership during a period of significant change and thanked him for his service to students and communities.
As part of a succession plan, the Board appointed Ryan Hawkins as Vice Chancellor for Financial Operations and President-Designate of Olney Central College effective July 1, 2026. Hawkins will spend the next year working alongside Simpson before assuming the college presidency upon Simpson’s retirement.
IECC officials say the transition will provide leadership continuity, mentorship opportunities, and help strengthen coordination between district and campus operations. Simpson will continue serving in his current roles through May 17, 2027, with Hawkins taking over leadership of Olney Central College afterward.
