No injuries were reported following a crash involving a semi-truck and an SUV Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Route 45 and Mount Vernon Road.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. when a 2017 Cadillac CTS, driven by a juvenile female, stopped in the roadway while waiting for another vehicle to make a left turn at the intersection.

The driver of a Kenworth tractor-trailer, 71-year-old Richard L. Pearce of Altamont, told deputies he crested a hill north of the intersection and was unable to stop because of wet road conditions. In an attempt to avoid striking the Cadillac, Pearce steered into the left lane.

The maneuver allowed the semi to avoid a direct collision, but the trailer clipped the rear driver’s-side corner of the Cadillac.

Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies, Wayne County EMS, and Rural Fire personnel responded to the scene. Despite damage to the vehicle, no injuries were reported.
