A Mt. Vernon, IL man has been arrested and faces charges of two counts of child pornography possession and one count of grooming.
According to information out of Jefferson County, officials announced Friday that 40 year old Matthew Smith was taken into custody after a sheriff’s office investigation initiated on May 13th by the department’s school resource officer at Woodlawn High School. Sheriff’s Office Detectives took over the investigation, resulting in several interviews and search warrants obtained on May 27th, collection of evidence, and forensic examination of electronic devices.
The investigation is ongoing and officials say more felony charges are possible.
