The National Weather Service has confirmed at least 13 tornadoes touched down across Southern Illinois, Southwestern Indiana, and Western Kentucky as a powerful line of storms moved through the region on Sunday, June 21st.
The strongest tornado received a preliminary EF-3 rating and was located in Jefferson County. Survey teams reported the tornado produced extensive damage before continuing into Wayne County.
In Wayne County, the National Weather Service confirmed two separate EF-1 tornadoes associated with the storm system.
Southwestern Indiana experienced significant tornado activity as well. Six tornadoes were confirmed in Warrick County, including four EF-1 tornadoes near Newburgh, Chandler, and Lynnville, along with two EF-0 tornadoes near Lynnville and Selvin.
In Gibson County, survey crews identified an EF-2 tornado near Fort Branch and an EF-1 tornado east of Mackey. Additional tornadoes included an EF-1 near Dale in Spencer County and an EF-0 tornado in the Grandview area.
In western Kentucky, an EF-0 tornado was confirmed near Hawesville in Hancock County.
The National Weather Service continues conducting damage surveys and says additional details, including final storm tracks, path lengths, and wind speeds, will be released as assessments are completed.
