LOCAL LIBRARIES, SCHOOLS RECEIVE STATE GRANT FUNDING

Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian Alexi Giannoulias has announced more than $27 million in grants for libraries across the state to support books, technology, literacy programs, facility improvements and security upgrades.

Several area libraries received funding, including the Fairfield Public Library, which was awarded $8,301.10. The Flora Public Library will receive $8,165.10, the Olney Public Library $14,791.70, the Bryan-Bennett Library in Salem $12,379.40, and the Wayne City Public Library $1,689.80.

The funding is intended to help libraries expand services and provide resources for residents of all ages.

In addition, the Secretary of State’s Office recently awarded more than $1.3 million to public school libraries throughout Illinois.

Locally, Flora Unit School District will receive $1,046.96, while both Clay City and South Central school districts were awarded $850 each.

School library grants may be used to purchase books, e-books, audiobooks, multilingual materials, technology and other educational resources to support student learning and literacy.

Since taking office in 2023, Giannoulias has directed more than $183 million in grant funding to public libraries, school libraries and adult literacy programs statewide.
