The National Weather Service in Paducah is warning that dangerous heat will continue across the Tri-State area through at least Friday until 8pm.
Afternoon high temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-90s, with heat index values climbing as high as 113 degrees due to high humidity.
Forecasters say the prolonged heat wave poses a significant risk for heat-related illnesses and urge residents to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and check on elderly neighbors, young children, and those without adequate cooling.
The hot and humid pattern is expected to persist through the middle of the week as high pressure remains over the region.
Beginning Thursday and continuing into the weekend, the ridge of high pressure is expected to weaken slightly, bringing a chance of isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.
Scattered thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, offering some relief from the extreme heat.
