Illinois Extension is once again offering free testing of dial-gauge pressure canners to help ensure safe home food preservation.
Extension officials recommend having dial gauges tested annually before the canning season begins. Testing is available at the Edwards, Richland and Wayne County Extension offices. Gauges may also be dropped off at the Lawrence and Wabash County offices for testing.
A special walk-in testing day will be held Wednesday, July 15th from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Richland County Extension Office in Olney. Gauges may also be dropped off during business hours the week prior for pickup on July 15th.
Residents are encouraged to contact their local Extension office to schedule an appointment or obtain additional information. Illinois Extension also offers resources on safe food preservation, recipes and home canning techniques.
