Governor JB Pritzker has issued a statewide disaster proclamation that includes Jefferson County following the June 21st tornado outbreak in Southern Illinois.
The proclamation allows state agencies to provide additional personnel, equipment and other resources to assist local recovery efforts. It may also help pave the way for future state and federal disaster assistance if additional aid becomes available.
Governor Pritzker is scheduled to visit Jefferson and Effingham counties today (Wednesday) to meet with local officials and residents affected by the storms.
The proclamation took effect immediately and directs the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security to continue coordinating recovery efforts and evaluating additional assistance for impacted communities.
