91 year old Mt. Erie resident, Gordon Lee Endsley passed away Monday June 29, 2026 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Gordon was born December 2, 1934 at home in Massilon township in Wayne County, Illinois, to Virgil and Bertha (Arnold) Endsley. He married Mary Lee (Gooch) of Fairfield, IL. on February 27, 1954.
Gordon was a 1952 graduate of Fairfield Community High School. He spent his life farming Southeast of Mt. Erie.
Gordon was a member of the West United Methodist Church of Mt. Erie until it closed. He served many different positions in the church over the years. He had been attending the Wesleyan Church of Fairfield recently.
Gordon served in many organizations over his lifetime. He was a member of the Mt. Erie Ruritan club, served as a director on the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation Board, and served on the Wayne County Democratic Committee, several years as chairman. He was a commissioner of the Union Drainage District of Wayne and Edwards County, a Wayne County Board member for several years, was a member of the Wayne County Corn Growers and had served as a former Supervisor for the Township of Massilon.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Lee; 2 sons; Curtis (Vickie) Endsley, of Mt. Erie, IL and John (Karen) Endsley, of Washington, IL. 3 Grandchildren; Clint (Julie) Endsley, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Lance (Lindsey) Endsley, of Cisne, IL, and Matt Howard, of Chicago, IL. 8 Great Grandchildren; Kate, Parker, Savannah, and Anna Beth Endsley, of Cisne, IL, Hudson Endsley, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Wes Fosdick, of Peoria, IL, Isaiah Howard, of Peoria, IL, and MaKayla Howard, of Denver, CO. 1 sister; Wilma Jenkins, of Kingsport, TN. 1 brother; Allen (Donna) Endsley, of Mt. Erie, IL. 3 nieces and 2 Nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Norman and Lula Gooch, a grandson, Tim Howard and a brother-in-law, Robert Jenkins
As per Gordon’s request, a graveside service will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026 at 11:30am at the West Cemetery, southeast of Mt. Erie, IL.
Memorial donations in honor of Gordon may be made to the West Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home or can be mailed to Curtis Endsley at 1268 CR 2675 E. Mt. Erie, IL 62446-1083
