(Philadelphia, PA) — The 76ers are swinging for the fences. ESPN reports the team is trying to lure LeBron James to the City of Brotherly Love. The 41-year-old is an unrestricted free agent after announcing his departure from the Lakers. The news comes one day after Philly fleeced Boston for 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown in a trade that sent Paul George and draft picks to Beantown.

(Undated) — Major League Baseball has dished out its discipline for an incident that took place between the Red Sox and Nationals earlier this week. Boston infielder Willson Contreras and Washington right-hander Cade Cavalli each have been suspended seven games for their roles in a benches-clearing brawl at Fenway Park. The Nats’ righty appeared to say, “sit down, boy” to Contreras after striking him out in Tuesday’s game. Contreras charged the mound and tried to throw his helmet over a group of players at Cavalli. In addition, Nationals pitcher Miles Mikolas was suspended five games and Red Sox outfielder Nate Eaton was handed a three-game ban.

(Washington, DC) — Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will return for his 22nd NHL season. The league’s all-time leader in goals re-signed with the Caps today after agreeing on a one-year, incentive-laden contract. Ovechkin had been quiet after Washington was eliminated from playoff contention, only saying that he would consult with his family and the team on his future. GM Chris Patrick said on Wednesday that there was room on the roster and under the salary cap for the 40-year-old winger after several moves to improve the roster over the past two weeks.

(Undated) — A couple Western Conference teams agreed to a trade in the NHL on Thursday. The Wild are acquiring forward Blake Coleman and defenseman Olli Maatta from the Flames in exchange for defenseman Jake Middleton and three draft picks, including a second rounder in 2029. Calgary is also retaining 50 percent of the salary Coleman is owed in the final year of his contract. Minnesota has also added forward Maxim Shabanov, and re-signed defenseman Zach Bogosian and forward Nick Foligno.

(Undated) — Indiana Fever stars Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell were named starters for this month’s WNBA All-Star Game. The trio will be joined by Natasha Howard and Olivia Miles of the Minnesota Lynx, the Dallas Wings’ Paige Bueckers and Jessica Shepard, A’Ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart and Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams. Starters were selected by a combined vote of fans, current players and the media. The teams will be selected by WNBA legends Cynthia Cooper and Theresa Weatherspoon to recognize the league’s 30th anniversary. The WNBA All-Star Game is set for July 25th in Chicago.

(Silvis, IL) — Two players are tied atop the leaderboard after the first round of the John Deere Classic. Lucas Glover and Zac Blair each shot an eight under 63 to open the tournament. Lee Hodges, Stephan Jaeger and Zach Johnson are tied for third at seven under par. Defending champion Brian Campbell is tied for 67th at one under. Takumi Kanaya, Austin Cook and Dylan Wu will be among the first group of players teeing off round two at TPC Deere Run.

(Joliet, IL) — The NASCAR Cup Series continues its in-season challenge this Sunday. The racers square off in the eero 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. Shane van Gisbergen earned the first victory of the tournament with a win from Sonoma last weekend. The driver of the Number-97 car sits 14th in the overall standings while Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney, Ty Gibbs and Kyle Larson make up the top-five.

American Frances Tiafoe also advanced to the third round. In men’s doubles, it was Robert Cash and JJ Tracy representing the Americans and moving on to round two. Women’s singles saw Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek collected straight set wins, while sixth seed Amanda Anisimova topped fellow American Sofia Kenin in three sets.
