James Adams Robin Turner
The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation has arrested two people following the discovery of human remains in Lake Mattoon.
Twenty-six-year-old James Adams and 62-year-old Robin Turner have each been charged with Concealment of a Homicide, a Class 3 felony, and Dismembering a Human Body, a Class X felony.
The investigation began the evening of June 28th when boaters discovered part of a human arm floating in Lake Mattoon. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office requested that Illinois State Police take over the investigation.
Authorities said the arm contained distinctive tattoos, which were released to the public in an effort to identify the victim. Additional searches of the lake led to the discovery of more human remains. Investigators later identified the victim as 38-year-old Dalewayne Turner of Plainfield.
State police say an extensive investigation quickly identified Adams and Robin Turner as suspects. On Wednesday, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Ruth Fitzgerald Drive in Plainfield, where both suspects were taken into custody. Authorities also recovered additional evidence during the search.
The case was presented Thursday to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved the charges.
Both suspects remain in custody. Illinois State Police say the investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
Numerous law enforcement, fire, emergency medical, and search and rescue agencies from across the region assisted in the investigation.
