The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Merit Commission is now accepting applications from individuals ages 18 to 20 for correctional officer positions following a recent change in Illinois law.
The new law lowers the minimum age requirement for county correctional officers from 21 to 18 years old.
Applications will be accepted through the close of business on July 10th and are available at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials note that applicants between the ages of 18 and 20 are now eligible to apply during this special application period.
Those who are 21 or older and have already submitted an application this year do not need to reapply. Their existing applications will remain on file and continue through the hiring process.
