David Roger Moore, 89, of Evansville, Indiana and formerly of McLeansboro, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, at River Pointe Health Campus in Evansville, Indiana.
David was born on June 13, 1937, in Gibson County, Indiana, the firstborn child of Samuel and Genevieve (Fredrick) Moore. Throughout his life, he was known for his unwavering faith, quiet strength, gentle kindness, and servant’s heart, touching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
On May 25, 1961, David married Marilyn McGill. Together they welcomed 2 daughters: Julie Lynn in 1968 and Christina Lee in 1969. The family made their home in Odon, Indiana, where they built many cherished memories through their church, schools, and community before the heartbreaking loss of both daughters in May 1986.
During nearly five decades of marriage, David and Marilyn shared a life devoted to faith and service. In retirement they participated in numerous mission efforts, including Campers on Mission, continuing to serve others until Marilyn’s passing in August 2010.
It was through mission work that David met Sondra Comer, whom he married in June 2012. Together they continued their shared commitment to faith and service as devoted members of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Evansville, Indiana.
Throughout every season of life, David’s faith in Jesus Christ remained his greatest strength and highest calling. Raised in the Southern Baptist tradition, he lived his beliefs with quiet conviction, serving others generously and sharing God’s love through both his words and his actions.
David graduated from McLeansboro High School in McLeansboro, Illinois and then graduated from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. Following college, he began a long and distinguished career at Crane Naval Base, where he worked until his retirement.
While his purpose was rooted in his faith, David found pleasure in life’s simple things—hunting, cars, and travel. Above all, he treasured time spent with family and friends.
In addition to Marilyn and their daughters, David was preceded in death by his parents.
David is survived by his beloved wife Sondra; his siblings: Richard Moore, Joye Brockett, and Brent Moore; along with extended family members, and many treasured friends.
Funeral services for David Roger Moore will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Blooming Grove Baptist Church in McLeansboro, Illinois with Rev. Bryan Gotcher officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Interment will follow the funeral service at Blooming Grove Cemetery in McLeansboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be in David’s memory to Oak Hill Baptist Church, or to New Life International.
Though David’s family and friends will deeply miss his wisdom, steadfast presence, and quiet sense of humor, they find comfort in the promise that his love, his example, and the faith by which he lived will endure—and that they will one day be reunited with him.
