Claude Edward James, 69, of both Carmi and Crossville

Claude Edward James, 69, of both Carmi and Crossville, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in Henderson, KY. He was born on April 10, 1957, to Claude and Betty (Grant) James. He married Sheila Renee Shipley on June 28, 2002, and they shared 21 years together before her passing in 2023. Eddie had many interests that brought joy to his life, including fishing, playing the guitar, singing, and tending to his garden. He found happiness in the simple things and especially cherished the time he spent surrounded by his family, creating memories that will be remembered and treasured by those who knew and loved him.

Eddie is survived by his children: Jeremy Davis of Mexico, Jesse Franklin of Maunie, IL, Geri Swanberg of Cave City, KY, and Katie Brown of Harrisburg, IL, parents: Claude and Betty James, siblings: Alfred James and Bobbie Garrels James of El Paso, IL, DA Grant, Mary Wheat Grant of O’Fallon, IL, Vivian Claudine Brown of Carmi, IL, and Scott Brown of Carmi, IL, grandchildren: Levi Franklin, Angela Franklin, Emmett Franklin, Hudson Fann, Dylan Swanberg, Breanna Swanberg, Hannah Swanberg, Brooklyn Swanberg, Brodie Swanberg, Riley Swanberg, and Jacob Moore, and a great grandchild, Damian Franklin. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Angela Parker James of Carmi and eight nieces and seven nephews. Eddie is preceded in death by his wife, Sheila R. (Shipley) James, his son, Elijah James, and sibling, Paul James Sr., and nephew Jeremiah James.

Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is assisting the family with arrangements. At the family’s request there will be no services at this time.
