COOLER WEATHER CONTINUES BEFORE HEAT RETURNS EARLY NEXT WEEK

The National Weather Service says a cooler and drier weather pattern will continue through today and into Friday morning, providing a break from the recent stretch of hot, humid conditions.

Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with afternoon highs in the lower 80s and light northeast winds.

Clouds will increase on Friday, with partly cloudy skies in the morning giving way to mostly cloudy conditions during the afternoon. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible before a better chance of rain develops Friday evening and continues into Saturday morning. Forecasters say some heavy downpours are possible across the Ohio Valley.

High temperatures Friday will remain near 80 degrees. Saturday will begin with scattered showers and thunderstorms before drying out during the afternoon, with highs reaching the mid-80s.

The break from the heat will be short-lived, however. Forecasters say hot and humid weather will return Sunday and continue through at least the first half of next week. Afternoon highs are expected to climb into the mid-90s, with heat index values ranging from 100 to 105 degrees. While a few isolated afternoon thunderstorms are possible, much of the period is expected to feature a mix of clouds and sunshine.
