MOUNT VERNON WOMAN CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER FOLLOWING FATAL STABBING TUESDAY EVENING

On July 28, 2026, at 7:33 p.m., the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Mt. Vernon Fire Department, and Litton’s Ambulance responded to 409 S. 20th Street for a report of a male unconscious and bleeding. When first responders arrived on scene, they located a male who had a stab wound. Mount Vernon Police Department Officers quickly located Quencie Favors, 31, of Mt. Vernon, IL, in the house and believed she was the offender and took her into custody without incident, while paramedics treated the victim. The male victim was transported to a local hospital by Litton’s Ambulance, where he was later pronounced deceased. Quencie was transported to the Mt. Vernon Police Department. Mount Vernon Police Department detectives responded to investigate, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services responded to process the crime scene. Quencie was later charged with First Degree Murder and detained at the Jefferson County Jail. The victim’s name will be released at a later time, pending notification of family members. Quencie is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
