As we begin a new month, the weather should be fairly comfortable for early August, according to the National Weather Service at Paducah, Kentucky. They say rain chances are in the forecast for this weekend, followed by drier weather early next week, and temperatures a little below normal, with highs in the low to mid 80s. Forecasters currently aren’t concerned with any severe weather this weekend.
Looking further ahead, the six to ten day outlook favors above normal temperatures and slightly above normal precipitation. In fact, the entire lower 48 United States is expected to be above normal for temperatures. The 8 to 14 day outlook shows above normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. The three to four week outlook, running from August 15th through 28th, shows equal chances for temperatures and precipitation to be above or below normal. The latest 30 day outlook for August indicates above normal temperatures and equal chances for precipitation to be above or below normal.
As far as area rivers this morning, the only river currently above flood stage is the Little Wabash River east of Fairfield. It is at 18.36 feet. Flood stage is 17 feet. At Clay City the stage is 11.8 feet, below the 18-foot flood stage. At Carmi the stage is 10.96 feet, below the 27-foot flood stage. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 5.18 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 4.77 feet. Flood stage is 19 feet. Bonpas Creek at Browns is at 1.48 feet. The Ohio River at Old Shawneetown is at a stage of 15.72 feet.
