The American Red Cross is urging eligible donors to give blood immediately as the organization faces an emergency blood shortage.
According to the Red Cross, blood donations have dropped sharply since the end of May, creating a widening gap between the nation’s blood supply and the needs of hospital patients. Officials say every donation is critical to helping rebuild the blood inventory.
Area residents will have an opportunity to donate on Tuesday, August 11th during a blood drive at Blue Point Free Will Baptist Church, located off Blue Mound Road northwest of Cisne. The drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m.
As an added incentive, all presenting donors will receive a $20 Amazon gift card, delivered by email.
The Red Cross encourages anyone who is eligible to schedule an appointment and help ensure blood is available for patients in need.
