Illinois Extension serving Edwards, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash and Wayne counties has announced its 2026 Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame inductees, recognizing volunteers for their outstanding service and dedication to local 4-H programs.
This year’s honorees include Deb Weger of Lawrence County, Lora Kocher of Richland County, Richard Gochenour of Wabash County, and Shannon and Travis Mix of Wayne County.
Shannon and Travis Mix of Wayne County were selected after spending nine years leading the 4-H Country Club before retiring as leaders in 2025. Wayne County 4-H Program Coordinator Ryan Littlejohn said the couple’s dedication strengthened the local program, expanded opportunities for youth and helped create a positive, welcoming 4-H community.
Deb Weger has served as leader of the Russell Community 4-H Club for the past 28 years. In addition to helping members with projects and livestock shows, she has emphasized leadership, community service and personal growth. Lawrence County 4-H Program Coordinator Maisie McClure said Weger continually encourages members to give their best effort, reminding them that “effort and heart matter just as much as the ribbon.”
Lora Kocher, a former 4-H member and third-generation club leader, has led the Country Clovers 4-H Club in Richland County for nine years. Despite working full time and remaining active in her community, she continues to volunteer and is recognized for her passion, dependability and willingness to help.
In Wabash County, Richard Gochenour was honored for years of volunteer service improving the horse arena at the county fairgrounds. His efforts have included installing drainage tile, constructing a new announcer’s booth and helping maintain the facility for 4-H and Junior Fair horse events.
The inductees will be recognized during a ceremony at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield on August 15th during their respective county exhibit day. The Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame recognizes individuals, couples and families who have made significant, lasting contributions to the state’s 4-H program.
