The Grayville City Council spent much of its Monday meeting in executive session before taking action on several personnel and business matters.
Following executive session, commissioners appointed Vanessa Fullop as the city’s next treasurer. Fullop will begin immediately and succeed Sharon Walden, who plans to retire at the end of September.
Mayor Travis Thompson reported the city pool closed early for the season because of a pump failure. A replacement pump will be purchased before next summer. He also said new park benches approved last month are being installed.
Commissioners approved an ordinance establishing utility charges, disconnection fees and related procedures, along with a sludge permit application and the associated $2,500 permit fee.
The council also declined to accept bids for the removal of about 14 trees in the city park. Although the vote was split 3-2, City Attorney Jay Walden advised that accepting a bid would require a four-fifths majority, so no action was taken.
In other business, the council unanimously approved a street closure request for the Friends of Grayville Car Show scheduled for October 3.
Commissioner Andi Ford also reminded residents to maintain their properties to avoid possible ordinance violations.
