Fairfield Community High School graduate Jade French of Mill Shoals was sworn in Monday as a new patrolman with the Carmi Police Department.
French is a 2014 graduate of Fairfield Community High School and the grandson of former Wayne County Circuit Clerk Pam Southerd.
Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter said French will begin police academy training on Aug. 30 at the University of Illinois Police Training Institute. He is expected to begin patrol duties shortly before Christmas.
French was sworn in by White County Resident Circuit Judge T. Scott Webb.
