SIU TO MARK 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11 WITH SALUKI STAIR CLIMB

Southern Illinois University Carbondale will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks with its annual Saluki Stair Climb at the Banterra Center.

The event will be held Friday, September 11tth with participants completing a simulated 110-floor stair climb, representing the 110 floors of the World Trade Center towers.

Participants may instead complete a two-mile walk around the Banterra Center concourse, symbolizing the evacuation route from Ground Zero across the Brooklyn Bridge.

The event honors the nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks, as well as first responders, military personnel and others affected by 9/11 and the War on Terror.

The Saluki Stair Climb is open to first responders, veterans, SIU students, faculty, staff and the public. Participants should arrive by 5:45 a.m.

Participation is free, but advance registration and a signed waiver are required. A limited number of commemorative T-shirts will be available to participants who complete the challenge.
