The Fairfield Mules Golf Team opened their season yesterday on the road at the Mt. Carmel Invitational. The Mules finished seventh as a team in the 10-team field with a total score of 349. Notable scores for the Mules were: Alex Fry with an 81, Cruz Wells with an 87, Jesse Simpson with a 90, Lane Witucki with a 91, Andrew Hutcheson with a 92, and Cruz Wells with a 93.

The Cubs were held to only one hit in a 7-0 loss from DC. Michael Bush notched a seventh-inning single for Chicago, which had a three-game winning streak snap. The Cubs will host the Cardinals this afternoon. St. Louis will try to keep its hot streak going. The team has won five of its last seven games after a series win over the Phillies.

(Philadelphia, PA) — After eleven days of training camp, it appears the Philadelphia Eagles are ready to hit someone in a different-colored helmet. Tempers flared at practice yesterday when offensive tackle Fred Johnson and defensive tackle Moro Ojoro went a little too hard at each other in a team drill, leading to punches and Ojoro eventually trying to take Johnson out at the knees. Cooler heads eventually prevailed and the team was able to wrap up practice. The Eagles will visit the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night for their preseason openers.

(Chicago, IL) — Chicago Bears president Kevin Warren says the team’s off-field focus is on building a new stadium in Indiana. Speaking to reporters yesterday, Warren said there are two viable sites in Hammond, but the deal is not done. He also refused to slam the door on building the venue on team-owned land in Arlington Heights, though talks with Illinois lawmakers have been “minimal” since March.

The team was trying to force a wrongful termination lawsuit into a closed-door hearing overseen by league officials, a process the court found to be rigged in the team’s favor. Recent lawsuits involving former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden and Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores have also been steered out of arbitration and into open court.

(Metairie, LA) — The New Orleans Saints’ fingers are crossed about the health of rookie wideout Jordyn Tyson. The eighth overall pick in this year’s draft left yesterday’s joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars early because of a hamstring injury. Coach Kellen Moore says he’ll know more about the extent of the injury today. Meantime, Spencer Rattler will start under center for New Orleans in the preseason opener against the Jags on Saturday while starter Tyler Shough sits out.

The season will tip off with a triple header on October 20th, highlighted by the reigning champion New York Knicks hosting LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers. Another key date for James will be Christmas Day when he makes his return to Los Angeles when Philadelphia takes on the Lakers. Other season highlights include the NBA Cup Championship on December 11th and Rivals Week in January that will see high profile matchups like the San Antonio Spurs taking on the Houston Rockets and the Knicks facing the Lakers. Almost 30 Hall of Famers emerged from the corn as part of a pregame ceremony as Philly snapped a two-game losing streak. Luke Keaschall slugged a solo shot for Minnesota, which has dropped four-of-six.

(Baton Rouge, LA) — Former LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels is demanding his alma mater return its copy of the Heisman Trophy he won in 2023. ESPN reported Thursday Daniels’ attorney sent the university a cease-and-desist order demanding it stop using his name, image, and likeness for promotional purposes. The dispute started over LSU’s decision to allow sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett to wear jersey number-five, which Daniels wore during his two seasons with the program. LSU reportedly has no intention of returning the Heisman to Daniels and is still deciding how it will respond to the cease-and-desist order. Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin has also spoken with Daniels’ representative directly. Daniels was drafted with the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders.
