A Salem woman has been arrested following an investigation into allegations that false information about a child's illness was used in connection with a fundraiser.
Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 8 Special Agents arrested 38-year-old Elizabeth "BethAnn" Parker of Salem on a charge of forgery, a Class 3 felony.
The investigation began in January after the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services asked ISP to investigate allegations that Parker provided falsified information indicating a juvenile was suffering from an illness the child did not have. Authorities said a fundraiser was subsequently held to help pay the child's purported medical expenses.
Following the investigation, ISP submitted its findings to the Marion County State's Attorney's Office. The forgery charge was filed Thursday, August 13th and Parker was taken into custody.
Parker is being held in the Marion County Jail pending her first court appearance.
Illinois State Police said no additional information is being released at this time.
