Christopher Rural Health Planning Corporation is developing a community garden designed to provide fresh produce to patients and help address food insecurity across Southern Illinois.
The project will include a “Food is Medicine” program for patients with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Participants will have access to fresh produce from the garden along with education on preparing healthy meals using the food grown there.
Work began August 5th behind CRHPC’s Christopher clinic, where members of Boy Scout Troop 156 helped assemble raised garden beds and spread mulch.
CRHPC officials say additional details will be announced as the garden develops.
