Former students and others connected to Smith School will gather for the school’s first reunion on Saturday, September 5.
The reunion will begin at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Zion Community Church building, located one mile north of the former Smith School site on Red Hill Road near Albion.
A catered lunch will be served at noon at a cost of $15 per person. Reservations are required by August 24 and can be made by calling Linda Wallace at 618-445-7740.
Those attending are encouraged to bring yearbooks, photographs and other Smith School memorabilia to share.
Smith School closed in 1963 and was the next-to-last country school in the Edwards County school system to close. Wabash School, located across the Wayne County line in Ellery, was the last.
Organizers say this will be the first Smith School reunion in 63 years.
