>>Lions’ LaPorta Not Certain To Play Week One

(Allen Park, MI) — The Detroit Lions are hoping to have one of their offensive playmakers available to start the season. Head coach Dan Campbell said yesterday tight end Sam LaPorta’s status for Week One is uncertain because of a hip injury suffered during a recent practice. LaPorta is coming off of a season-ending back injury that required surgery to repair a herniated disk.

>>Chiefs’ Mahomes Remains Out For Preseason

(Kansas City, MO) — Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will sit out another preseason game as the team takes no chances with his surgically-repaired knee. Head coach Andy Reid confirmed today that Mahomes will not play Saturday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Justin Fields will start under center and play into the second quarter before being relieved by Garrett Nussmeier and Chris Oladokun.

>>McCarthy Likely To Start For Vikings This Week

(Eagan, MN) — Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy will try to lock down the number-two spot on the depth chart this week. Head coach Kevin O’Connell says McCarthy will “more than likely” start under center for Saturday’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. The 23-year-old lost the battle for the starting job last week to Kyler Murray, who put in a lot of work during joint practices this week. Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer are also expected to get playing time as they compete with McCarthy.

>>Colts Tight End To Miss A Week With Injury

(Indianapolis, IN) — A groin injury will sideline Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren for the next week. The second-year pro was hurt during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons. There are no concerns that Warren won’t be available for Week One. The former first-round draft pick caught 76 passes for 817 yards and four touchdowns during his rookie campaign.

>>Harden To Stay With Cavs On Three-Year Deal

(Cleveland, OH) — James Harden will stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers after agreeing to a three-year deal worth a reported 97-million-dollars. Global Series Germany launches in December, with the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators squaring off in a two-game set from Dusseldorf. They’ll be the first NHL games in the country since 2011.
