A new study is raising questions about possible connections between sugary drinks and stomach cancer.
Researchers from Mass General Brigham found people who regularly consumed sugary drinks had an increased risk of developing gastric cancer. Decades of health information from over 112,000 adults in the U.S. was analyzed to come up with the results. They said people who drank at least one sugary-sweetened beverage a day had about two and a half times the risk of developing the cancer compared to those who rarely if ever drank them. The study included drinks such as lemonade, punch, sports drinks and sodas.
The study did emphasize that just because someone consumes the drinks it’s not a guarantee that they will develop any cancer. Dieticians recommended reducing the amount or number of drinks consumed to help reduce any cancer chances and keep themselves healthier.
