Fairfield Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Thomas J. Vasdekas, M.D., F.A.C.S., to its medical staff as an independent contractor. Dr. Vasdekas brings more than 35 years of experience in general surgery, along with extensive expertise in robotic, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical procedures.
Dr. Vasdekas is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and has spent his career providing a broad range of general surgical care. His areas of special medical interest include robotic surgery, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery, hernia surgery, endoscopy, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and minimally invasive breast surgery.
A recognized leader in robotic surgery, Dr. Vasdekas has served as a da Vinci Proctor for Intuitive Surgical since 2012, helping mentor and support surgeons in robotic surgical techniques. He has also served as a senior attending surgeon at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Illinois, since 2010, where he has been involved with the Midwest Institute for Robotic Surgery and the hospital’s robotics surgery committees.
Throughout his career, Dr. Vasdekas has held senior surgical positions at multiple hospitals in Illinois, including Silver Cross Hospital, Palos Community Hospital and Oak Forest Hospital. He also previously served as a clinical instructor at the Chicago Medical School.
His extensive surgical background includes experience in endoscopy, gastrointestinal surgery, hernia surgery and minimally invasive procedures, providing patients with access to a wide range of surgical services close to home.

Dr. Vasdekas earned his medical degree from the University of Athens Medical School before completing his internship at Swedish Covenant Hospital and his General Surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center in Chicago, where he also served as Chief Administrative Resident.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Society of Robotic and Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Clinical Robotic Surgical Association, Chicago Medical Society and Illinois State Medical Society.
