Grayville Finance Commissioner Andi Ford resigned from the City Council effective immediately Monday night, citing ongoing rumors and what she described as attacks on her livelihood and integrity.
In a letter to the council and residents, Ford said she had worked to put the interests of the city and its citizens first despite rumors involving alleged impropriety, embezzlement and unethical activity. Ford said she could tolerate those claims, but allegations involving her personal business had gone too far.
Ford concluded her letter by encouraging residents to pay attention when voting in the next election. Her resignation begins a 30-day period for an appointment to fill the vacant seat on the council.
In other business, resident Randy Funkhouser asked the council to consider an ordinance addressing trees on neighboring properties that cause damage. Funkhouser said he has experienced property damage on five occasions from trees or limbs originating on other properties and has seen his insurance deductible increase.
Funkhouser suggested an ordinance could establish that a property owner had been notified about a dangerous tree, potentially providing evidence of negligence if the tree later caused damage.
City Attorney Jay Walden said he sympathized with the concern but questioned whether a city ordinance would change how insurance companies handle such claims. Walden said he would research whether the city has any options to address the issue.
The council also approved an amended Fiscal Year 2026 city budget to correct a clerical error. Discussion on the city’s brush dump contract and quotes for demolition of two properties was tabled.
City Engineer Rex Gower reported that earthwork has begun on the Albion-Grayville water treatment plant project. Gower also provided updates on the wastewater treatment plant and a county highway reconstruction project.
Meanwhile, Mayor Travis Thompson has picked up election paperwork indicating his intention to seek another term after eight years of service. Former Commissioner Andy Brock has also picked up paperwork indicating plans to run for a commissioner seat.
