Wayne County Clerk, Liz Ann Woodrow is asking residents interested in becoming election judges to learn more about the qualifications required to serve.
Election judges play an important role at polling places and must meet several requirements. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, be able to speak, read and write English, have a good understanding of basic math and be considered capable and of good reputation and character.
Those serving cannot be candidates for office in the election or elected committeepersons and must not be subject to registration requirements under the Sex Offender Registration Act.
Election judges generally must reside in and be entitled to vote in the precinct where they are selected to serve. However, one judge from each political party may be appointed from outside the precinct.
Those interested in becoming an election judge in Wayne County or who have questions about the requirements can call 618-842-5182 for more information.
