Schools in Wayne City and Fairfield were placed on brief soft lockdowns in separate incidents Wednesday and today (Thursday) as law enforcement responded to situations in the communities.
Wayne City Schools were placed on a soft lockdown this (Thursday) morning while the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in Wayne City.
According to the sheriff’s office, the lockdown was initiated as a precaution. Deputies responded to the call and determined there was no danger. School officials were notified, and the lockdown was lifted.
The Wayne City incident came one day after Fairfield Community High School, Center Street Grade School and North Side Grade School were placed on soft lockdowns Wednesday afternoon.
Those lockdowns began shortly after 1 p.m. after school officials were notified of a potential threat on the east side of Fairfield.
Officials stressed there was no threat on or near the schools. Classroom activities continued while additional safety precautions were put in place around the exterior of the buildings.
Fairfield Community High School students who were off campus for classes were accounted for and rerouted during the incident.
Approximately 30 minutes later, local law enforcement informed school officials that the situation was under control and there was no longer a potential threat. All students and staff remained safe.
Authorities have not released details about the incident that prompted Wednesday’s lockdowns in Fairfield.
