This year’s Miss Fairfield Fall Fun Fest Pageant will feature a special addition, as 17-year-old Jordyn Ahlfield has been named Honorary Miss Fairfield Fall Fun Fest.
Jordyn, the daughter of Luke and Bridget Ahlfield, has Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome, a rare genetic condition caused by a mutation or deletion of a gene on the 18th chromosome. Her family spent years searching for a diagnosis before learning she had the condition when she was 11.
Pageant Director Chasity Fry approached the Ahlfield family about honoring Jordyn after seeing how girls around her age have included her in school activities, dances, birthday parties and other events.
Jordyn underwent a full spinal surgery last April to correct a 90-degree curve in her spine. Her mother said the surgery initially left Jordyn unable to sit without assistance, but she has continued working to regain her strength and mobility.
Bridget said Jordyn can walk with assistance but cannot travel long distances. Despite the challenges, she said her daughter continues to inspire those around her and enjoys being involved in the community.
Jordyn is a senior at Brownsville School in Carmi and enjoys watching “Ultimate Fighter” with her father, swimming and spending time with friends.
Her family says Jordyn is excited about being part of this year’s Fall Fun Fest pageant and sharing the experience with the other contestants.
