LADY MULES KICKOFF CLASSIC:
The Fairfield Lady Mules hosted the Lady Mules Kickoff on Saturday at the Mule Barn and Center Street School. Fairfield went 3-1 on the day and finished in 3rd place with victories over North Clay, Lawrenceville, and Mt. Vernon with their only loss of the day coming from eventual tournament champion Newton. NCOE finished in 2nd place. Fairfield Lady Mules Dalanie Ellis and Jensyn Robbins were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Cisne Lady Runnin’ Lions also participated in the tournament, finishing in 2nd Place in the Copper Bracket.
The Wayne City Lady Indians Volleyball team also competed on Saturday in the Bearcat Bash at Christopher. The Lady Indians finished 2nd overall with wins over Christopher and Joppa-Maple Grove and a loss to tournament winner South Central.
HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY:
The Mules and Lady Mules Cross Country Teams were in action Saturday at Leo French Park for the Tom Wickham Invitational. The Mules Boys team finished 1st overall with notable performances from Treyton Lewis-1st, Kanyen Lingafelter-2nd, Kendall Diesel-3rd, Skylar Bladel-4th, Jarret Vaughan-8th, and Ashton King-9th. The Lady Mules finished 2nd overall with notable performances from Emeri Sager-1st, Ellanie Vanway-9th, Brianna Meeks-10th, Gabby Zurliene-12th, Nela Segitova-15th, and Addy Spencer-23rd.
The Fairfield Jr. High also hosted a practice meet after the Wickham Invitational. The Cisne Jr. High Boys Team finished 1st overall. Notable performances for the Boys were: Jayson Rawls-New Hope-1st, Corbin Hutchcraft-Cisne-2nd, Lennox Lewis-Cisne-4th, Tucker Brooker-Cisne-6th, and Hudson Weber-New Hope-10th. For the Girls, Bristol Weber-New Hope-4th, Pyper Lewis-Cisne-10th, and Paisley Ewing-Fairfield-12th.

The Cardinals came up short in their home-series against the Pirates following a 5-4 loss. Matthew Liberatore surrendered three earned runs for St. Louis, which has dropped seven-of-nine. The Cards visit the Dodgers tomorrow night. In other news, JJ Wetherholt is dealing with a nagging issue. The Cards placed their rookie infielder on the 10-day injured list yesterday with wrist tendinitis. He’s hitting .242 this season with 17 homers and 48 RBIs.

The Cubs dropped their three-game series to the Reds after a 7-5 loss at home. Pete Crow-Armstrong belted a pair of homers and now has 38 on the season. Chicago has dropped four-of-five and will host Milwaukee tonight.

(Inglewood, CA) — The speculation surrounding Aaron Donald’s NFL comeback is over. ESPN reports the 10-time Pro Bowler came out of retirement on Sunday to re-join the Rams. The 35-year-old agreed to a one-year deal worth 20-million dollars, which can reach 30-million with playoff incentives. Donald retired in 2024 and has more than 110 career sacks, which is second-most in league history among defensive tackles.

(Indianapolis, IN) — Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen has been arrested on drunken driving charges. According to online jail records, the 34-year-old was charged with driving while intoxicated and DWI endangering a person, which are both misdemeanor charges. Multiple reports say Allen was arrested in downtown Indianapolis early Sunday. The Colts said in a statement that they are aware of the incident and that they’re in the process of gathering more information. Allen joined the Colts on a one-year deal earlier this month.

(New York) — The NFL has sidelined the Green Bay Packers star running back amid his criminal case. TMZ reports the league has placed Josh Jacobs on the Commissioner’s Exempt List. The NFL told TMZ Jacobs may not practice or attend games while he’s on the list. He can go to the Packer’s facility on a limited basis, with the club’s permission for meetings, individual workouts, therapy and rehab, along with other approved non-football activities. The move comes days after Jacobs was charged with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property following an alleged altercation with his ex-girlfriend.

(Denver, CO) — A defensive player on the Broncos is in hot water with the league. ESPN reports Jonathon Cooper landed on the NFL’s commissioner exempt list on Sunday. The outside linebacker is scheduled to appear in a Colorado court on Monday for arraignment on domestic violence charges. Police say Cooper was arrested two separate times in June relating to incidents with his girlfriend.

(East Rutherford, NJ) — A familiar face has found himself on the Giants’ 53-man roster. The G-Men announced Sunday that wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has made the initial roster after a season out of the NFL. Beckham signed with the Giants in the spring, and head coach John Harbaugh said a roster spot was not guaranteed. The 33-year-old didn’t miss a single practice and caught seven passes for 76 yards this preseason.

(Berea, OH) — The Browns are keeping three quarterbacks on the roster following a controversial offseason. Cleveland placed second-year signal caller Dillon Gabriel on injured reserve and designated him to return with a back injury. Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood finished tied for 11th at 10 under par.

(Williamsport, PA) — Curacao are the winners of the Little League World Series. The Dutch Caribbean island nation defeated Nevada 11-2 Sunday in the championship game. It marks the second title for the country, previously winning in 2004. Nevada also was the runner-up last year, falling to Taiwan in the championship game.

(Daytona Beach, FL) — An underdog is claiming the last spot in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. Ryan Preece cruised to victory lane at Daytona on Saturday after securing a win in the Coke Zero Sugar 400. He overcame a more-than-30-point deficit to steal the final Chase spot from Shane van Gisbergen. Preece and 15 other drivers will begin their quest for the championship when the entire field squares off at Darlington next Sunday.
