A crash on Interstate 64 in White County resulted in the death of one person Friday afternoon east of Burnt Prairie. The crash occurred shortly after another semi had caught fire and was destroyed in a separate incident.
Reports indicated fire destroyed the semi near mile marker 118 east of the Burnt Prairie exit. Carmi and Little Wabash Fire Department personnel responded to the scene. The trailer of the semi burned down to its frame, with the cab destroyed. Firemen also had to extinguish a grass fire that had spread to the north of the scene. There were no reports of injuries from the burning semi. Illinois State Police said westbound traffic was backed up for about three miles as a result of the incident and was rerouted eastbound at milepost 110, the Fairfield-Norris City exit, to route 45.
A second incident resulted in the death of one person on I-64 east of Burnt Prairie. A passenger car hit the rear of a semi, claiming the life of the driver. The identity of the driver was not immediately released. State police have not released any additional information on the fatal crash at this time.
