Dr. Paul Stauder of Fairfield from Precision EyeCare Center has been named Optometrist of the Year by the Illinois Optometric Association.

The award was presented during the association’s annual convention, held August 27 through August 29 in Springfield.

Stauder attended the University of Illinois from 1991 to 1994 before earning his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1998. Following graduation, he moved to Fairfield and purchased an optometry practice in Flora from his brother, Dr. Scott Wooley. Stauder continues to provide full-scope primary eye care in Fairfield and has since purchased a second location from Wooley as his brother transitioned into semi-retirement.

Stauder has also held several leadership positions within his profession. He is a past president of the Southern Illinois Optometric Society and was named the Illinois Optometric Association’s Young Optometrist of the Year in 2007.

He later served as president of the Illinois Optometric Association in 2014 and 2015 and currently serves as chair of the association’s PAC Board.

The award recognizes Stauder’s longtime commitment to patient care, organized optometry and the profession.
