The Fairfield Mules and Lady Mules Cross Country teams both had impressive showings on Tuesday at the Dirk Miller Memorial Invitational at Hamilton County. The Mules Boys Varsity team finished 1st overall with Ashton King-2nd, Skyler Bladel-4th, Jarret Vaughan-5th, Treyton Lewis-6th, Kanyen Lingafelter-9th, and Vance Vanway-17th. The Lady Mules team also finished 1st overall with Emeri Sager-1st, Ellanie Vanway-5th, Nela Segitova-6th, Gabby Zurliene-7th, Briann Meeks-12th, Rowan Sanders-13th, and Addy Spencer-17th. The Mules JV Boys squad had impressive performances from Kendall Diesel-1st, Keith Ukena-5th, and Kyler Richards-7th.

Fairfield’s Center Street School held it’s Invitational Cross Country Meet Wednesday at Leo French Park and it was also 8th Grade Recognition Day. In Boys’ Varsity, Cisne finished 4th overall as a team. Top finishers in Varsity Boys were Jayson Rawls-New Hope-1st, Rigger Legg-Wayne City-2nd, Corbin Hutchcraft-Cisne-3rd, and Lennox Lewis-Cisne-10th. In Girls Varsity, Bristol Weber-New Hope-2nd and Paisley Ewing-Fairfield-6th.
In Boys Junior Varsity, top finishers were Mason Ethridge-Jasper-1st, Cohen Richards-Fairfield-7th, Bo Laird-Fairfield-8th, and River Abbott-Jasper-9th. In Girls Junior Varsity, top finishers were Addison Lawyer-Fairfield-1st, Jensen Elliott-Geff-2nd, Kentley Ethridge-Jasper-3rd, Gracie Walker-Geff-4th, and Brystol Flanagan-Fairfield-5th.

(Undated) — Former NHL player, coach, and hockey analyst Barry Melrose is dead at age 70. Melrose was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2023, leading to his retirement from ESPN after he joined the network in 1996. He coached Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angeles Kings, reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 1993 in his first of three seasons with the team. Melrose left ESPN in 2008 to coach the Tampa Bay Lightning, but was fired after 16 games and went back to ESPN. He also had an 11-year pro career across the NHL, AHL and WHA.
