Hundreds of pounds of potato chips are being recalled because they contain a pork ingredient that was not eligible for import into the United States.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a Class I recall for 264 pounds of De Todito Natural and De Todito BBQ potato chips.
Officials say the products contain chicharron, or pork cracklings, produced in Colombia. The pork ingredient came from a source that was not eligible to export the product to the United States.
A Class I recall is the agency’s highest risk classification, indicating a reasonable probability that consuming the product could result in serious health consequences or death.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled chips.
Consumers who have the affected products are advised not to eat them and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
