CROSSROADS CLASSIC TOURNAMENT AT EFFINGHAM:
The Fairfield Lady Mules Volleyball team was back in action again on Saturday at the Crossroads Classic in Effingham. After going 0 and 2 Friday night with losses to Minooka that included an exciting 33-31 set loss and losing to McCracken County, Ky in 2 Sets, the Lady Mules started the day with victories over Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin in 3 Sets and St. Louis Visitation Academy in 2 Sets. Fairfield walked away with 1st Place in the Bronze Flight after defeating St. Louis Nerinx Hall in 3 Sets, not to mention playing tough competition both Friday and Saturday. The Lady Mules finished the tournament 3 and 2.

(Undated) — The first full Sunday of the NFL season kicked off with a bang. The Lions managed to deny the Saints’ game-winning two-point conversion attempt to win 31-30 in overtime. Meanwhile the Bears topped the Panthers 59-37 in a high-scoring contest, the Bills rallied to beat the Texans 36-31, and Derrick Henry moved into third place on the NFL’s career touchdown list in the Ravens’ 41-23 win over the Colts. Elsewhere the Vikings scored 29 unanswered points in their 39-22 come from behind win over the Packers. The night wrapped up with Giants beating the Cowboys 28-20 on Sunday Night Football. Week One closes with the Chiefs hosting the Broncos on Monday Night Football.

Jaxson Dart threw for 230 yards and added more than 50 rushing yards to go with three touchdowns. Javonte Williams found paydirt twice, but took a critical taunting penalty on his last score which forced a missed extra point when Dallas was mounting its comeback attempt.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Vikings shocked the Packers after rallying for a 39-22 victory to open the season at US Bank Stadium. The Vikes trailed by 12 points before scoring 29 unanswered in the second half. Carson Wentz came in for a concussed Kyler Murray and threw for three touchdowns. Minnesota begins the year 1-and-0. Jordan Love threw for 387 yards, two touchdowns and a pick for Green Bay, which starts 0-and-1 for the second time in three years.

(Houston, TX) — The Bills stunned the Texans in a 36-31 victory from Houston. Josh Allen led the team on seven-play, 96-yard touchdown drive with just over 90 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Jordan Palmer caught a 34-yard TD pass to cap-off the epic comeback. CJ Stroud threw for more than 270 yards to go with two touchdowns and no interceptions for Houston.

(Nashville, TN) — The Jets dominated the Titans 23-10 in the season opener from Nissan Stadium. Geno Smith started his first game for Gang Green since 2016 and completed 19 of his 24 pass attempts for 215 yards. Breece Hall and Kenyon Sadiq each recorded a rushing touchdown. New York begins the year 1-and-0. Cam Ward threw for 140 yards and a touchdown for Tennessee, which is 0-and-1 for the sixth straight season.

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Los Angeles Rams defensive end Myles Garrett is set to miss some time. Multiple sources report that Garrett will have arthroscopic surgery on his knee and be placed on injured reserve. He will miss at least the next four games. Garrett would be eligible to return in week six when the Rams take on the Arizona Cardinals. This comes after LA suffered a season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.

(Austin, TX) — The Texas Longhorns pulled off a stunning comeback to knock off the Ohio State Buckeyes in the top game of the college football weekend. It was all about the fourth quarter as the number four Longhorns stormed back from a 20-point deficit to beat the top-ranked Buckeyes 24-to-23 in Austin on Saturday. The feat was so impressive, it marked the first time in over two decades that a top-ranked team has squandered a 20-point, fourth quarter lead to end up with the loss.

(Undated) — There is a new team sitting atop the latest college football coaches poll. Texas climbed two spots and is leading the nation. The Longhorns are followed by Georgia, Notre Dame, Indiana and Miami. Ohio State dropped five spots to number six in the nation. LSU, Texas A and M, Ole Miss and Alabama round out the remainder of the top 10. Virginia has replaced Florida as number 25.

(Madison, IL) — Kyle Larson ended a 50-plus winless race drought in the NASCAR Cup Series after securing a victory in the Enjoy Illinois 300. The driver of the Number-5 car held off Alex Bowman at World Wide Technology Raceway. Joey Logano, William Byron and Ross Chastain rounded out the top-five finishers. The Chase continues on Saturday in the Bass Pro Shops Night Race from Bristol Motor Speedway.
