SMALL EARTHQUAKE RECORDED IN FRANKLIN COUNTY MONDAY MORNING

A small earthquake was recorded in southern Illinois Monday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the earthquake shortly before 6:50 a.m., with its epicenter in Franklin County near the Valier and Crainville area.

Initial reports placed the magnitude between 2.1 and 2.4. University of Memphis Center for Earthquake Research and Information instruments detected the quake at approximately 6:48 a.m., with the epicenter reported about one kilometer northeast of Crainville.

Earthquakes of this size are generally not felt except by people located very close to the epicenter.

No damage or injuries have been reported.
