The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department made two arrests Saturday, including one stemming from the investigation of a residential burglary in rural Fairfield.

Deputies were investigating a burglary at a residence around 2 p.m. when they located a vehicle on the property belonging to 46-year-old Randall D. Cottrill of Fairfield. According to Wayne County Sheriff, Chris Otey, deputies located Cottrill on foot a short distance down the road.

Authorities say Cottrill was found in possession of burglary tools and confessed to breaking into the residence.

Cottrill was arrested and transported to the Wayne County Jail on preliminary charges of residential burglary, possession of burglary tools and driving on a suspended or revoked Illinois driver’s license.

Then around 10 p.m. Saturday, deputies on patrol spotted 34-year-old Andrew Blaze Greenwood of Fairfield walking in Fairfield. Deputies knew Greenwood was wanted on an active Wayne County warrant and took him into custody.

The Sheriff’s Department says the warrant was for possession of methamphetamine and resulted from a previous investigation.
