New Hope School has announced plans for a roadway improvement project aimed at increasing student safety during arrival and dismissal times.
The project is being made possible in large part through a donation of land from longtime New Hope supporters Vernon and Mary Lou Gwaltney.
School officials say the new roadway will be moved to the north side of the north parking lot. The change will eliminate public vehicle access on the existing roadway between the school building and parking lot.
District officials say separating public traffic from the area between the school and parking lot will provide additional safety for students during busy morning arrival and afternoon dismissal periods.
The project is also expected to improve safety for families and community members attending athletic contests, school activities and other after-school events.
School officials acknowledge construction could result in temporary changes to traffic patterns and campus access. Information about the construction schedule and any temporary access changes will be announced as the project moves forward.
