The National Weather Service in Paducah says astronomical fall officially begins this (Tuesday) evening, and the weather is expected to become noticeably more fall-like across the region for the remainder of the work week.
The autumnal equinox arrives at 7:05 p.m. tonight, marking the astronomical beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere.
High temperatures through Friday are forecast to remain in the upper 70s, accompanied by partly cloudy skies and northerly winds. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the upper 50s to lower 60s.
Saturday is also trending mild and mostly dry before temperatures begin climbing again. Highs are expected to return to the 80s by the end of the weekend and into early next week.
A more unsettled weather pattern could bring rain to the tri-state area early next week, although there remains considerable uncertainty surrounding the timing and development of that system.
The fall equinox is one of two times each year when day and night are approximately equal in length, with the other occurring around the beginning of astronomical spring.
